'Fifty years of British Poetry is a wonderful evening poetry in Arabic and English organized by the Oriental Cultural Forum. Iraqi poet and author

Fadel Assultani  will talking about his new published book,’ Fifty years of British Poetry and selected poems from the book will be read in English and Arabic .The evening will be held at the Poetry Café (which belongs to the Poetry Society).

 

This event will mark the beginning of an exciting programme of events from the Oriental Cultural Forum, which will be held on the first Wednesday of every month.

Fadhil Assultani graduated from the English Department at the College of Arts, University of Baghdad, in 1971. He left Iraq in 1977 and now lives in London where he works as the Arts Editor for Al-Sharq-Al-Awsat, an Arabic newspaper, and Editorin-Chief of the cultural quarterly magazine, Aqwas. He has published several books of poetry and translation, including: "The Bluest Eye" by Toni Morrison, "Selected Poems" by Meroslav Holub and "Selected ShortStories" by William Trevor. The latest is his anthology "Fifty Years of British Poetry (1950-2000)", which covers the work of 56 poets, including a short introduction to each, such as David Gascoyne, Dylan Thomas, Thomas Blackburn, Louis MackNeice, Charles Tomlinson, Ted Hughes, Thom Gunn, Philip Larkin, R.S. Thomas, Kathleen Raine, Seamus Heaney, Andrew Motion and others. His poetry has been translated into German, Spanish, Kurdish, Persian and English. His published collections of poetry include:
